Until recently this material was associated with the elite and aristocracy, which may make us think that taking care of furniture upholstered with velvet will be tiresome and difficult. However, this is a misconception – due to the fact that this material is super durable, taking care of it is really very easy. However, it is good to remember about several rules. Along with furniture purchase, you should also buy a special agent for velour or plush cleaning – it will surely make furniture maintenance and keeping it clean easier
Quick reaction to any dirt and stains is crucial here. Removal of stains is important so that they do not penetrate deeper layers of velour. It is important to know that velour furniture should be wiped according to the direction of bristle arrangement; the opposite direction of stain cleaning will guarantee that it will be pressed into deeper layers of the material
It is best to remove stains and dirt with the previously mentioned velour or plush detergent and a small amount of water. Afterwards, it is advisable to dry the area with a hairdryer, for example. However, before using a velour cleaner, make sure that it does not leave unsightly stains and marks on your furniture. Such a test may be carried out, for example, on the backrest of a corner sofa or other less visible place. It is also worth bearing in mind that plush materials, i.e. velvet or velvet, are not very fond of strong chemicals. Try to use substances with delicate composition.
Although velvet is very durable material, it has one enemy – dust. That is why furniture upholstered with velour should be vacuumed and its fibers combed relatively often. If for some reason you do not want to invest in a special detergent for cleaning velour, you can try to get rid of the stain with one of the home methods. You will need ammonia and water. Pour two tablespoons of ammonia to one liter of water and rub this mixture on the stain and leave it for about an hour. However, remember to apply the solution according to the direction of the hair
After an hour, use a soft brush to remove the sticky hair. Dry the wet stain with a hair dryer. Keep in mind that this is a home remedy and you act at your own risk. It is cheap but if you do not do it properly, you may damage your beloved piece of furniture
A beautiful velvet corner sofa placed right next to a window may not be the best solution. Velour has a tendency to fade when exposed to sunlight. The darker the color of the upholstery, the more visible the color change will be. Therefore, it is advisable to place a corner sofa, armchair or velvet sofa further away from sunlight. It is also good to avoid direct sources of heat, for example, a fireplace or a radiator
